If our rescued animals could speak, they would probably whisper these words to each other:
“Who is this person who keeps coming back to see us, always bringing warmth, excitement and surprises?”

That familiar friend is none other than actor Ashmit Patel, who is a long-time supporter of Wildlife SOS. To celebrate Elephant Appreciation Day 2025, Ashmit arrived at the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre (ECCC), meeting and greeting every resident elephant. Ashmit addressed all pachyderms by their name, observed their enrichment routines, and inquired about their progress with the caregiving team.

Ashmit’s journey with Wildlife SOS began last year, when he gave our rescued elephants and sloth bears a surprise visit as Secret Santa for Christmas. He showered them with gifts, joining caregivers in all the cheerful celebrations, making the festivities extra special for the animals under our care.

Our team at the centre was astonished to see how Ashmit remembered the elephants’ traits and quirks! He could recall which one rushes first for fruits, who prefers mud baths over walks, and the elephant who would lead their mini herds for every evening stroll.

After his time with the elephants, Ashmit travelled to Agra Bear Rescue Facility (ABRF) to meet his favourite duo, Mowgli and Mandro, along with several other sloth bears. He watched them enjoy their favourite enrichments, dig the ground to feed on their favourite insects, and interact with each other in their familiar, charming ways.

At ABRF, Ashmit met with the veterinary team and the caregivers, warmly greeting each of them and thanking them for the dedication and compassion they pour into caring for rescued wildlife every single day.

As part of his visit, Ashmit also took a scenic boat ride across the Yamuna, appreciating the rich landscape that surrounds the habitats of our rescued wildlife and observing native birds along the way.

Every interaction with Ashmit carries a natural warmth. He listens, connects and admires everyone he meets. Before leaving this time, he smilingly promised to come back again soon.

With each visit, Ashmit Patel strengthens his bond with Wildlife SOS. His respect for India’s wildlife is rooted in empathy. His enthusiasm, compassion and commitment to speak up for ethical treatment of animals make him not just a supporter, but also a significant and cherished part of the Wildlife SOS family. If you wish to join our growing family of wildlife warriors, plan a visit to our bear and elephant centres for experiences you’ll never forget.
