Laxmi at risk

elephant laxmi

Laxmi is an elephant who was rescued by Wildlife SOS in July 2013 after enduring years of neglect, mistreatment, and inadequate care. When she first came to us, she was morbidly obese and suffering from several serious medical problems caused by the conditions in which she had been kept. Her body showed the long-term effects of improper diet, lack of exercise, and years without the care and compassion she desperately needed.

Since her rescue, Wildlife SOS has worked tirelessly to help Laxmi recover. Our veterinary team and caregivers have provided her with specialized medical treatment, a carefully managed diet, regular exercise, and the emotional support she needed to begin healing. Over time, Laxmi has made remarkable progress. She has adjusted to her new home, where she is treated with kindness, dignity, and respect, and where she finally has the freedom and space every elephant deserves.

However, some of the damage caused by years of neglect cannot be fully reversed. Certain medical conditions will remain with Laxmi for the rest of her life, making it even more important that she continues to receive expert care in a safe and protected environment.

Now, after all she has endured and after finally finding safety, Laxmi’s former owners are trying to take her back. They have identified a legal loophole in the orders that allowed her to be moved to our facility, and they are attempting to use it to have her returned to the very situation from which she was rescued.

We cannot allow Laxmi’s hard-won recovery, safety, and future to be put at risk. She deserves to remain in the care of people who understand her medical needs and are committed to her well-being.

We are asking compassionate people everywhere to stand with Laxmi. Please help us prevent her from being returned by signing our petition and adding your voice to the call to keep her safe.
